I am honored and grateful to have earned the backing of so many great leaders in our community but there is one endorsement for which I am particularly proud and distinctly humbled: Dr. William Ferguson “Fergie” Reid.
Fergie (as he prefers to be called) was a physician and pioneer in the civil rights movement in the 1950s. In 1968, he became the first African-American elected to the Virginia Assembly since the days of Reconstruction. Every African American in Virginia politics today walks along paths that Fergie forged and we’re all in his debt.
I encourage you to learn more about this great man. (This profile in the Richmond Times-Dispatch is a great place to start.) You’ll see why I am so proud to have Dr. Reid’s support and encouragement.
